Price per night starts from £100 for two guests, but can accommodate up to 4 people at additional cost per night.

This boutique ground-floor family room is individually decorated in a rustic palette of warm copper, teal and mustard shades. It has a high level of accessibility. The room accommodates four people, either in a double bed and 2 singles, or in 4 single beds.

The room is a total of 27 sqm in size with a 39” TV. Quality room furnishings are in oak and include two bedside tables, a dressing table and stool and a wardrobe.

The modern and spacious en-suite wet room has a level-floor shower to provide luxurious facilities for all.

Leading off the bedroom is an enclosed patio area, with a small table and chairs. We welcome dogs to Calon y Fferi, and this room is dog friendly (1 large or 2 small).

The room features an original painting by local artist Dorothy Morris.

About Dorothy Morris

Dorothy is an accomplished local artist, very much influenced by her location.

She is an experienced teacher, lecturer and a practising artist who has exhibited widely including, to name a few, at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, Glyn Vivian and Atkinson Galleries, Swansea, and the Tenby and National Waterfront Museums.

Dorothy owns Greenspace gallery here at Calon y Fferi. More of her works are displayed around the building, many of which are for sale.

Having an honours degree in Fashion and Textiles, Dorothy works in a variety of mediums including textiles, ceramics, mixed mediums and the more traditional watercolours and acrylics. She runs a variety of art workshops from her Gallery, some of which are available for guests to join.

 

The Dominic Williams Suite

Situated on the ground floor near the end of the corridor, this double room is individually decorated in a palette of blues to reflect the sea. Offering a high level of accessibility, the room accommodates a maximum of two people and has a comfortable divan double bed.

The room is a total of 22 sqm in size, with a 39” TV. Quality room furnishings are in oak and include two bedside tables, a wardrobe, a dressing table and stool and an armchair.
A set of folding chairs and table is provided to allow you to eat takeaways in your room during Covid restrictions

About Dominic Williams

Dominic was born in southeast Wales but has made Ferryside his home since 1998.

He lectures in Humanities and Performing Arts at the University of Wales. A poet, a performer and creative mentor, Dominic is one half of the improvised spoken-word and movement act Your Strangest Friend with contemporary dancer Stina Nilsson and part of the FYD Collective, an international group of contemporary artists. His poetry is published in online journals and in the anthologies Red Lamp, Black Piano and Between Somewhere and Nowhere and has been translated into Welsh, Spanish and Swedish. His photo-essay is published in the chap book K. Dominic’s first poetry collection and why we were all going was published in 2017, and a  further collection Galen man på tåget was published in Swedish in 2021. He has also produced a book of creative non-fiction, inspired by letters exchanged between punks in the 1980s.

Dominic’s poetry collections and the local history book that he edited, Carmarthen, are available for sale from the centre. Dominic has worked with Disability Arts Cymru, Wales’ national disability art charity, for over ten years and was the chairman of the board of trustees in 2016.

The poem exhibited in this room, Calon y Bore, was written as an interpretation of a series of images from a walk on Ferryside marshes and beach. The poem captures the hope and optimism of a good day during the recovery process from an extended period of depression and anxiety.

The Jim Greer Suite

Situated on the ground floor, this double room is individually accented in a palette of rich green and vibrant red to compliment the artwork in the room. It offers a kingsize or twin bed option, accommodating for a maximum of two people.

The room is 22 sqm in size, with a 39” TV. Quality room furnishings are in oak and include two bedside tables, a wardrobe, a dressing table and stool and an armchair.

About Jim Greer

Jim is originally from Glasgow and attended Glasgow School of Art and taught Art at St Andrews High School.

After returning from Adelaide, Australia, where Jim was a freelance artist, he gained an honours degree in Architectural Glass. He has since formed his own company making stained glass and worked as a tutor in Trinity College Carmarthen.

Using glass and other mediums such as oil painting, he currently takes private commissions from his home studio.

The backlit glass in this room was inspired by the 50th year Anniversary of the moon landing and is Jim’s take on the solar system.

More of Jim’s work can be seen around the building, many of which are available to buy.

The Dylski Suite

Situated on the ground floor, near to reception, this double room is accented in a vibrant palette of pinks and blues to reflect the artwork in the room. It offers a kingsize or twin bed option, accommodating a maximum of two people.

The room is 18 sqm in size, with a 39″ TV. Quality room furnishings are in oak and include two bedside tables, a dressing table and stool and a wardrobe.

The en-suite shower room has a low-entry enclosed shower with sliding glass doors.

The bedroom has an external fire door, which leads out to a path and the attractive front garden area, with its wooden tables and benches.

An original painting by Dylski is featured in the room.

The Ken Day Suite

Situated on the ground floor, this twin room is individually decorated to reflect the sunset on the estuary with tones of glistening goldOffering a good level of accessibility, the room accommodates a maximum of two people and has comfortable twin beds.

The room is 18 sqm in size, with a 39” TV. Quality room furnishings are in oak and include a stunning locally made feature headboard, two bedside tables, a dressing table and stool and a wardrobe.

The en-suite shower room has a large low-level shower.

The room overlooks a pretty garden area at the front of the building. A fire door leads directly out of the room onto the garden, with its tables and benches.

The room features an original photograph of the Ferryside estuary by local artist Ken Day, and this is reflected in the décor.

About Ken Day

Ken found his way into photography after using it to record his work as a furniture maker. His interests in natural history and geology, combined with a love of photography, enabled him to become a professional photographer.

Ken has produced greeting cards and magazine and book covers as well as exhibitions. In 2006, he produced a book Beloved Tywi, a visual journey through Carmarthenshire to the Cambrian Mountains. This is a book of farming, myth and legends that tell a story of the River Towy.

Today, Ken is still producing photography as well as working with wood. He produced the magnificent headboard seen in the Ken Day suite, as well as the silhouette photograph.

Smaller items by Ken can be purchased to take home.
